Kakaako is a commercial, retail, and posh residential district in a prime location between the downtown business district of Honolulu and tourist mecca of Waikiki. Kakaako has undergone a large-scale redevelopment effort in the past decade. With the recent construction of luxury high rise condominiums and the proposed extended development of the Ward Neighborhood, this revitalized niche neighborhood is ideal for business professionals, retired couples, and investors seeking luxury condominiums. Several of these residences provide a full service concierge lifestyle, and are steps from Ala Moana Beach Park and Waterfront Park, providing a healthy outdoor extension of high-rise living. High-end retail shops and restaurants are located within walking distance of the Ward Shops and Ala Moana Shopping Center. The recently constructed John A. Burns School of Medicine, part of the University of Hawaii at Manoa, is located at the Kakaako Waterfront Park, and is also a research institute for basic and clinical research.
General Growth Properties (GGP) has unveiled its long-range vision to expand the development of this urban village neighborhood in the 60-acre Kakaako area. The Master Ward Neighborhood Plan envisions a central gathering place to celebrate traditional island values, music, art, and multicultural diversity, and will provide a pedestrian-friendly boulevard linking residential and commercial components of the community.
Luxury condominum homes, with one to three bedrooms, are currently available at Hokua at 1288 Ala Moana Keola Lai; Koolani Moana Pacific; and Nauru Towers . They range in price from approximately $500,000 to $5 million.
